Virtual Participation for Liaison Meetings

We are currently using Wimba for virtual participation in Liaison meetings. Wimba is available to the state courtesy of DLDS.

Julie's screen will be shown in Wimba. Participation for virtual participants will be via the text chat area or via VoIP or phone audio participation. The group physically in the room will be broadcasting audio by microphone or telephone backup if needbe.

Someone in the physical meeting will be designated to monitor the text chat to make sure that virtual participants will be "heard" in the meeting. This person may also have to type in the discussion so that people know what we're doing if the audio doesn't work as planned.

Logging in

Please login at least 10 minutes prior to the meeting for audio checks.

  1. Navigate to  http://mdlib.wimba.com/launcher.cgi?room=md_meetingAUN
  2. Run the Setup Wizard prior to entering room (if you close the popup window, you’ll see it)
  3. Then click on Participant Login The room ID should automatically come up as md_meetingAUN (if not, type it in)
  4. Type in your name (first and last) then click Enter

What do i need to participate?

You will need a microphone and speakers to participate in this meeting via VoIP. If you would like to use the phone, once you've done your Setup Wizard and you are in the room, click on the phone icon to get the dial-in information.

I can only attend part of the meeting, is that okay?

Virtual participants are asked to participate in as much of the meeting as possible. If you can only participate in part of the meeting, that's fine but if you're unfamiliar with wimba we ask that you log in before the meeting starts, if you can, so we can help you without taking time away from those in the room. You do not need to remain logged in until you can participate.

What happens if something goes wrong?

Technical issues are bound to happen. If they do, check out the technical issues section of the Wimba documentation. We will try to appoint a point person will also be available to help anyone out.

If something does go wrong, please feel free to exit out of the meeting and follow-up with the notes.

If your audio isn't working or isn't good enough quality for you to hear, you can participate in and follow the text chat for discussion. You will also be able to see Julie's screen (which will be the same that's being presented to the physical room).
