Qwidget Implementation: A Guide for Partner Libraries

About the Qwidget

The Qwidget is an embedded chat widget that libraries can place anywhere on their website, at the customer's point of need. The Qwidget is another customer entry point for our customers into the chat queues librarians already monitor. Qwidget customers are identified as being on that interface by the label “[qwidget]” displayed at the beginning of the question on the librarian's side of the interface.

Qwidget: Mobile Tracking v. Not Tracking

The Qwidget is mobile, right out of the box - you just need a special link not available to you in the customization area in QuestionPoint that will either track or not track where customers are accessing the Qwidget.

What Does the Qwidget Code Look Like?

This is the simplest version of the Qwidget code.

Teaching a provider about qwidgets? See the attachments at the bottom of the page.

Have you had a chance to see the qwidget in action?  The qwidget is located on numerous webpages on MD library websites.

Here is an example of the Pratt Library’s qwidget on its Databases webpage, http://www.prattlibrary.org/research/database/index.aspx:

Qwidget Implementation: A Guide for Maryland Schools

Maryland AskUsNow! (AskUsNow!) students and educators are currently accessing the 24/7 library chat reference service using a qwidget or chat form.  The qwidget method of accessing AskUsNow! looks different than the chat form.  This method is also more visible and more popular than using the chat form.  Here is more information about the qwidget:

QP Install on Sunday

This Sunday we’re getting a new QP install. The biggest thing with this install is a re-launch of the Qwidget interface. See the release notes for details.

QuestionPoint Install happening this Sunday (1/10)

It's time for another scheduled QuestionPoint install. This one will be at 3AM EST on Sunday, January 10, 2010.

While no one in Maryland monitors at that time, please be aware of any traffic that may have come in during this time by checking your NEW Question Lists on Monday morning.

This install has a lot of advances for the qwidget including a mobile webkit for the iphone and facebook and new qwidget reports. The main new thing for us to know with this install is that the bug regarding DRAFT answers has been fixed:
